Chest ECG wearable

In development

A 110 mm infinity-shaped chest patch that records single-lead ECG, pulse, skin temperature and motion over the heart.

What Kumar did

  1. Architected the patch and wrote design spec v2.0 for the product and PCB teams.
  2. Designed the flexible waist and the three-island rigid-flex board so a 110 mm patch follows the breastbone.
  3. Built 3D-printed fit prototypes to test the form on the body.

What it is

Telomy's own chest sensor, shaped around the infinity in the Telomy mark. It sits at the centre of the chest, where a ring or a watch cannot record an ECG.

How it works

Two hydrogel electrodes 58 mm apart pick up the heart's electrical signal, an optical window reads pulse and a metal disc reads skin temperature. The planned firmware samples ECG at 500 Hz, finds each beat on the device and sends the intervals over Bluetooth, buffering to memory when the phone is out of reach, such as inside a shielded therapy chamber.

Engineering

Two rigid lobes are joined by a flexible waist that bends 13° each way, so the patch follows the breastbone; a rigid 110 mm part would leave a 10.8 mm gap on a slim chest. The electronics sit on three rigid islands of one rigid-flex board, and the infinity mark doubles as the button.
